Explanatory Answer

Method of solving this CAT Quantitative Ability Question from Percentage, Profit & Loss question

Option d is correct

Let the printed price of a toy be Rs. 100
Selling price after 40 % discount = Rs. 60
Further given,
60×60=1.2×60×c , where c is the cost price of a toy.
c = Rs. 50
Profit = 60×6050×60=600
Let the new selling price be Rs. s/toy after 10 toys were destroyed in fire. In order to maintain the same amount of profit, we have
600=50×s60×50=50×s300050×s=3600s=Rs.72
Hence, revised discount =10072=28%
